Winter Sun Escapes for Walkers

  • Written by Maria Golpe

Don't pack away your walking shoes just yet, the CaminoWays.com walking experts have a selection of fantastic winter sun escapes for walkers. Are you ready?

PORTUGAL: FISHERMEN'S TRAIL

Breath-taking cliffs, wild sandy beaches and quaint little fishing villages await along the Fishermen's Trail of the Rota Vicentina in Southern Portugal. A treat for all the senses, combining great food, stunning scenery and great trails. In addition, October is the best month of the year for birdwatching in the area, as migratory birds make their way from Europe back to Africa. You can walk the full trail from Porto Covo to Sagres in 11 days or walk a stretch of the route.

Price: From €563 per person sharing for a 7 night trip, including accommodation, breakfast, luggage transfers and holiday pack with route notes and practical information. More details: Rota Vicentina.

CANARY ISLANDS: TENERIFE

The Canary Islands are the perfect destination for walkers in the winter months. Our new website CanariaWays.com has a selection of wonderful walking holidays in the islands.

Spend a week in Tenerife exploring on foot the fascinating Teide National Park, the forests surrounding Santiago del Teide and the coastal trails into the picturesque coastal town of Garachico. Our 7-night package 'Volcanic landscapes of Tenerife' includes accommodation in boutique hotels and the unique Parador Cañadas del Teide.

Price: From €1040 per person sharing, including airport transfers, accommodation, transfers to the trails and holiday pack with route information. More details: Volcanic landscapes Tenerife.

CAMINO DE SANTIAGO: SEVILLE

For Camino fans looking for a sunny route to enjoy in the winter months  we recommend opting for Camino de Santiago trails in Southern Spain and Southern Portugal. For instance, the first section of the Via de la Plata Camino route from the lively city of Seville is best discovered this time of the year.

Walk from Seville, across the Andalusian countryside, over 7 days. Price: From €604 per person sharing, including accommodation, luggage transfers and holiday pack with route information and pilgrim passports. More details: Via de la Plata from Seville.

Other great options include the Camino Mozarabe from Granada to Córdoba (10 days); and the Camino to Fátima in Portugal from the coastal resort of Estoril Cascais to Fátima's Basilica (10 days).
