How do people celebrate St Patrick's Day around the World

  • Written by Digital 360

One of the most popular yearly festivals known to Planet Earth, St. Patrick’s Day sure brings quite a bang with celebrations that make it to the memorable charts.

Now if you’re wondering who parties the hardest on this given day, you’d probably be right in guessing it’s the Irish folks in Dublin. However, what you probably don’t know is that there are more St. Patrick’s Day parties around the world that are worth an honourable mention.

Here’s a look into the top destinations that have hit worldwide attention for going green this St. Patrick’s Day!

1. Chicago, USA

If there’s one place that likes to make a statement, that place sure is Chicago. With an annual tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green, the Windy City sure does turn a few heads. For St. Patrick’s Day this 2019, the traditional dyeing of the river is scheduled to happen on 14th March at 10 am. So if you’re looking to grab a good spot to see it unravel in front of you, be sure to head up to Michigan Avenue Bridge East or Columbus Drive Bridge West. The parade is scheduled to start at noon from Balbo and Columbus, heading toward north of Colombus Drive and then to Buckingham Fountain. As for other festivities, wander around town to find different events such as a fun run or some theatrical shows all in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

2. Sydney, Australia

Bringing things a little closer to home, Sydney makes for a great destination to spend the special day. With a massive parade and a Family Day scheduled every year, Sydney has taken the highlight of reportedly being the second biggest St Patrick’s Day parade after New York City. The Sydney St. Patrick’s Day parade this 2019 is set for Sunday 15th March. You won’t want to miss this event if it’s within reach as the parade is only one aspect of the entire celebrations. With local and international musical acts all lined up to perform on the main stage followed by plenty of awesome foods from all over the world, there’s something for everyone.

3. London, England

Scheduled to take place on Sunday 15th March 2019, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in London promises an abundance of marching bands and colourful floats. Starting from Green Park and ending in Trafalgar Square, you’ll find an all-day festival starting from noon to 6 pm waiting for you. With free entertainment the likes of traditional Irish dances and musical compositions, the already famous Trafalgar Square (with Irish pubs already in place) will definitely impress.

4. New York, USA

What better way to make a statement than to have the iconic Empire State Building go green this St. Patrick’s Day? Being the largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the world, New York is the place to be for a fun-filled St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Scheduled to start at 11 am on 17th March 2019, you can expect plenty of entertainment followed by some Irish green beer.
