Winterfeast Plates Up the Remarkable

  • Written by Ellie Tonkin

Locals know it, visitors discover it and Winterfeast celebrates it - extraordinary grows in Bundaberg and the North Burnett!  Placing it all on show for the nation once again, the highly successful culinary event, Winterfeast, will be serving up authentic farm-gate-to-plate experiences from Friday 7 to Sunday 16 July 2017.

Inspired by a passionate culinary community, Winterfeast is all about the connection from farmer, distiller, brewer, grazier or fisherman; to restauranteur and caterer; to you and your plate.

Winterfeast has emerged from the community's love for local, fresh paddock-to-plate produce. The region's iconic rich red soil, the lush green fields and the straight lines of the orchards stretching into the bright blue skies are a visual feast, and the produce brought about by love and toil is what foodie holiday dreams are made of.

“Bundaberg North Burnett is an incredibly rich food bowl and Winterfeast serves up some of the freshest produce in the nation,” says Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism General Manager, Katherine Reid.

“Winterfeast goes beyond the dining experience though; each event pulls back the curtain to reveal the stories behind each dish - the farmers, the chefs, the makers.”

“You really will be spoiled for choice at Winterfeast this year.  The events being plated up for Winterfeast are very special and we're already fielding a lot of interest from right throughout Queensland,” Ms Reid said.

Our most famous export is celebrated at the Cocktails at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery, where Bundaberg Rum turns on an extravaganza with rum-inspired foods made of local produce paired with world-class rum cocktails and premium liquids straight from the barrel.

The Bundy Flavours and Winterfeast Farmers Markets are the markets that inspire culinary dreams.  Mountains of vine ripened tomatoes, succulent zucchinis, snapping sweet potatoes, sweet fruit wines and so much more are all waiting for you alongside demonstrations by local and guest chefs.

The hugely popular Sunday Soiree returns, with an enormous line up of local food, top class wine and entertainment throughout the day.  Tickets sell out fast for this long lunch, so don't delay.

Farm Flavours Picnic returns and is shaping up to be another swift sellout.  And who can resist a feast of regional produce in a macadamia grove!  With local entertainment and plenty of blue skies and green grass, bring the whole family to this local institution.

Try our own boutique beer and cider range at the Bargara Brewing Co's Brewfest 2017, where we prove that the East coast has some of the best ales and lagers in the nation, or get an intimate understanding of the brewing process from the brewers themselves at the Backstage Pass @ The Brewhouse.

Water St Kitchen will present three events this year – a three-course Breakfast at The Table and the sumptuous Long Lunch at The Table and 5-course Dinner at The Table, both with matching wines and incredible atmosphere.

The beautiful Tastings on the Terrace is back again for 2017.  Be a part of the extended Italian family of Terry & Mary Byrne, the wine making team behind Hill Of Promise Winery.  Learn directly from the Byrne's about the wines, produce and process of the award-winning white and red wines, sparkling, fortifieds and fruit liqueurs as you eat the finest of Bundaberg's produce in the picturesque hills of Childers.

Start your farm gate experience with a visit to some of the best – the Artisan Food Tour will take you behind the scenes at some of Bundaberg's most prolific produce hotspots, where you can meet those responsible for growing what's on your plates both in their own farms and with a farmers picnic in the passionfruit vines of a major fruit producer.

Eat the whole region without leaving the riverfront at the spectacular Chilli & Lime Fiesta at Riverfeast.  Our favourite food night market will be spicing it up for Winterfeast, serving up speciality dishes and signature drinks alongside an entertainment program that will keep you warm under our clear winter skies.

A new and exciting entry into the program is the Women in Voice Cabaret.  Catered by the award winning local foodie institution, Indulge Café, the smooth sounds of the songstresses will be accompanied by a selection of gourmet, cinema-inspired treats and paired beverages throughout the night.
