Heading to Canberra these school holidays? No matter if your little ones prefer to spend their days indoors learning or outdoors exploring, there's something for everyone in Canberra.
For your snow bunny
Skating, skiing, snowplay – Canberra's got it all! Corin Forest, just a 45 minute drive away, is the place to be for all your snow action. With tobogganing, skiing, snowman-creating and of course marshmallow toasting, it's the perfect place for your family to 'chill'. For a 'cool' experience in the city, head to Skating At Canberra, where you'll be able to slide and glide your way around a rink daily.
For the book lover
For a cultural twist on storytime, head to the National Library of Australia to hear tales from Japan before taking a look at their Melodrama in Meiji exhibition. The National Film and Sound Archives will continue to bring childhood favourites like The Neverending Story back to the big screen as part of their Book Heroes on the Screen program.
For your budding scientist
Explore Australia's home of science after dark for Mid-Winter Nights at Questacon (Thursday 6 – Sunday 9 July, 5.30-9pm, just so you don't get your wires crossed). Your whizz-kids will be light years ahead, with stargazing, winter shows and the eight action-packed galleries just waiting for them to explore. Easy as pie!
The dinosaurs from the National Dinosaur Museum will be paying the Australian National Botanic Gardens a visit, and we encourage you to do the same. The palaeontologist-to-be in your family will be delighted as they explore dinosaurs and plant fossils across the Gardens – follow the dino footprints around on an expedition across Canberra's living gem.
For your favourite helper
Does your child love a cape? Kids can perfect a superhero outfit before conquering the museum trail at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House's Superhero Masterclass. After that... saving the world!
Zoocation at the National Zoo and Aquarium is your little one's chance to work as a zookeeper as they help out with the duties involved in caring for the Zoo's animals, and having a lot of fun while they're at it. For creatures a little less on the wild side, get up close and personal with furry farm animal friends at the newly-opened Yarralumla Play Station Farm Friends petting zoo.
For your inner wild-child
Holidays aren't always just about the kids, so if mums and dads are looking for some more grown-up fun, check out Canberra's best winter indulgences. Whether it's fun for the whole family, the pursuit of pampering or simply getting cosy by a fireplace, get your skates on, because it'll be child's play for you in Canberra these school holidays.
